RUST COVERTER
- A rust converter is a chemical solution designed to stop rust from spreading on metal surfaces and convert it into a more stable, paintable surface. It is used primarily on iron or steel surfaces that have developed rust (iron oxide) due to exposure to moisture and oxygen.
* How Rust Converters Work:
1. Rust converters contain two primary active ingredients:
- Tannic Acid: This chemical reacts with rust (iron oxide) and converts it into iron tannate, a more stable and inert black compound.
- Organic Polymers (like 2-butoxyethanol): These form a protective layer over the converted rust, preventing further moisture and oxygen from reaching the metal, thus inhibiting future rust formation.
- Once applied, rust converters turn the reddish-brown rust into a black or dark purple compound, sealing the surface and making it ready for painting or further protection.
