Powder coating stripping is the process of removing cured powder coating from metal parts so they can be recoated, repaired, or reworked.
1. Chemical Stripping (Most Common)
- A chemical paint/powder remover dissolves and lifts the cured powder coating from the metal surface.
* Process:
Immerse parts in a stripping tank.
Heat the solution if required by the chemical supplier.
Allow the coating to soften and detach.
Rinse thoroughly with water.
Neutralize if required.
Re-pretreat (phosphating/nano coating) before powder coating again.
2. Abrasive Blasting
- Uses abrasive media to mechanically remove powder coating.
* Media examples:
Aluminum oxide
Garnet
Steel grit
Glass beads
