Phosphating: The metal is immersed in a phosphating solution or bath, which contains phosphoric acid and other chemicals such as zinc or manganese salts. The metal reacts with the phosphoric acid to form a layer of insoluble metal phosphate crystals on the surface. This layer provides corrosion protection and improves the adhesion of subsequently applied coatings.
