- Hot blackening salt is a chemical compound used in the hot blackening process, a method for black oxide coating on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous metals. This process enhances corrosion resistance, reduces light reflection, and improves lubrication for moving parts.

- Cleaning – The metal is degreased and pickled in acid to remove rust and scale.
- Hot Blackening – The part is immersed in a bath of molten blackening salts at 135-155°C (275-310°F).
