The 7-Tank Phosphating Process is used to achieve maximum coating performance, superior corrosion resistance, and longer product life before powder coating or painting. Each tank performs a specific function that prepares the metal surface step-by-step, ensuring a clean and chemically active substrate for coating.
* Purpose of Each Tank
Tank 1 – KLN-18 Degreasing
- Removes oil, grease, dirt, and shop-floor contaminants.
- Ensures the metal surface is completely clean.
* Tank 2 – Water Rinse
- Removes residual degreasing chemicals.
- Prevents contamination of the next tank.
* Tank 3 – RLN-27 De-Rusting
- Removes rust, oxide scales, and mill scale.
- Restores a fresh metal surface.
* Tank 4 – Water Rinse
- Washes away acidic residues from de-rusting.
- Prevents chemical carryover.
* Tank 5 – AR-36 Activator
- Activates the metal surface.
- Produces finer and more uniform phosphate crystals.
- Improves phosphate coating quality.
* Tank 6 – ZNP-54 Phosphating
- Forms a microscopic crystalline phosphate layer.
- Provides excellent paint and powder coating adhesion.
- Improves corrosion resistance.
* Tank 7 – PSV-72 Passivation
Seals the phosphate coating.
Increases resistance to rust and moisture.
Enhances coating durability and finish quality.
Why Not Directly Powder Coat the Metal?
* Without phosphating:
Paint adhesion becomes weak.
Coating may peel or blister.
Rust develops quickly.
Product life is reduced.
Surface finish becomes inconsistent.
* With 7-Tank Phosphating:
Stronger powder coating bond.
Better corrosion protection.
Improved finish quality.
Longer service life.
Reduced coating failures and customer complaints.
